Artificial Intelligence! The buzzword of our topics during a successful event in partnership with SkillsFuture SG, Lifelong Learning Institute and Hehsed.

Following a highly successful completion of our partner event about Artificial Intelligence on the 9th November 2018. We just wanted to bring across a summarised post here to share with you what you have missed.

The session started with an opening led by CEO of Hehsed, Dr Francis Goh sharing with the audience on AI in the VUCA world. Exploring the macroeconomic developments around the world and how A.I is advancing at a rapid rate that requires mindset transformation of businesses today.

An active digital change transformational leader, Dr Francis shared with the audience on how adopting A.I needs to accelerate in a VUCA landscape. Candidly sharing Sophia's smart conversation with Will Smith.

Following a light-hearted opening moment, we got into the next exciting topic: "A.I: Not about what it can do, but also what it should do." by Richard Koh, CTO of Microsoft Singapore.

Leading the session with how Microsoft has actively developed in the space of A.I and Microsoft AI's approach to driving innovation. That's where we got serious and move towards reflecting what and how A.I is impacting the way we operate in our daily lives.

Especially how we are leveraging on A.I to make a difference in the way we operate and carry out our daily life activities.

Impressing the audience with how Microsoft is using A.I for the better of human lives, their impact goes a long way in making differences in many lives.

Introducing to the audience a real case scenario where Microsoft has developed an app specifically for visually impaired folks called Seeing AI. (Try it out by downloading it, it's really a smart app making a difference) and it's FREE!

Real world applications of A.I brings about higher performance and functionality to humans and that's what Microsoft is continually engaging their efforts to drive and bring forefront technologies to us.

Following a highly energized session with Richard, Dr Andreas Raharso, Adjunct Professor at INSEAD. Started a highly thought-provoking topic on Digital Leadership in A.I Era.

Introducing the capabilities of how today's leaders need to lead Cognitive transformation (THINK differently), Behavioural transformation (ACT differently) and Emotional transformation (REACT differently) to succeed in our future digital landscape.

Taking a real-life case study about the rise and fall of Toys R Us.

The advancement of technology is frightening as information's volume, variety and velocity accelerate faster than the human cognitive ability, leading to a widening human learning gap. This is coupled with a high intrinsic factor in us that is called "FEAR".

Quoting on how historically, humans have an innate "Ancient brain", the case of geographical discovery have been plagued with fear of being swallowed by dragons, preventing the exploration of the seas.

Or during the phase where humans first discovered the use of electricity, it has also been marred by poor perception of it bringing death with the use of electricity.

What we haven't truly focused on is the rewards from this transformational embarkment of an unknown.

Like the discovery of America by Colombus in setting sail or the beautiful night landscape that we see today thanks to the use of electricity. That's where we are at in leading the use of A.I in today's landscape.

Irrationality encapsulates a human’s tendency to be disproportionately loss averse, often leading to leadership procrastination in the adoption of A.I. Which shows that many of businesses today are scared to digitalization.

Humanising technology is not about solving the problem with adding more layers of technology, but rather how as leaders can leverage on learning from the past events of transformation to lead the organization to adopt A.I. Sharing the cognitive perspective of Dual processing thinking, we explore how can we reduce or eliminate the Fear of Technology that many business leaders face today.

Dr. Andreas shares a simple theory call Nudging. Our people's behavior is affected by cognitive influences and individuals struggle with turning intentions into actions.

To put it simply, it is a choice architecture that alters people behavior in a predictable way without forbidding any options or significantly changing their economic incentives. Done through 3 simples steps:

1.) Making Easy a default option

2.) Cognitive structuring (Framing)

3.) Mapping.

Example of Mapping

Above is a video of a classic example how nudging is applied.

Summarising a highly thought-provoking and engaging session. Dr Andreas, shared that Technology advancement carries an invisible threat that can kill any company and the untaught state is making leaders freeze about making technological advancements and adoption and how we can rethink our "nudge capabilities" to be applied to our change management strategies.

Leading forward in our session, our CEO and Co-founder, Jian Hong continued bringing an engaging topic about the technologies for tomorrow's business practices.

Bringing a quick overview into A.I and where we are in the space of A.I were some of the key opening for the session.

Appreciating the wave of business challenges and how we are have developed Smart Bots to support businesses were also shared with the audience.

How a customer service bot is integrated into a CRM to drive intuitive responses.

Customers and employee Expectations have shifted with being comfortable in the use of A.I today. Re-thinking how should business approach the technologies and take on approaches to adopt it requires stepping beyond the "Fear" and strategizing where are the "low hanging fruits" to gain maximum benefits from the use of A.I

Having been deeply embedded in the developments of A.I and Smart Bots, Su-Ette has continued to help meet the technological demands of many businesses. However, we do continue to see the effect of "technological fear" as what Dr Andreas have shared in the earlier topic.

Sharing a research thesis of our friends Julius and May, the barriers in adopting A.I in HR function is significantly slowing down the adoption of A.I in HR.

Provoking thoughts on whether HR is leading and creating the "nudge team" or allowing the function or business to be exposed to the threats of technologies.

How businesses can focus on moving towards applying mindset in building their business for the future, is about providing a directional compass to navigate the VUCA landscape.

Ending with a light-hearted video on how technology completes task much faster than humans in a game of "Finding Waldo"

Taking the stage for the final topic is Mikhail, touching on "The digital art of persuasion".

Catching the business audience where they are, becomes critically imperative for today's business. As the targeted customers' attention span shrinks, so must the approach by businesses to move speedily in attracting this smaller window of attention. The historical evolution of persuasion have moved from stones, door-to-door, direct mails, phones to computers (Emails), however, the effectiveness of such methods is diminishing as consumers evolve in an "On-demand" society.

Helping the business leaders to explore the evolution of the persuasion journey has been an eye-opener that got us to think back again: "Have past marketing and outreach efforts stayed relevant in today's consumerism landscape?"

Helping the audience walk through a quick A, B, C, D method in deploying strategic initial approaches towards reshaping the business's digital transformation was shared.

And wrapping up the discussion with a panel interaction with the audience.

An evening of good wine, food and interactive networking with our audience concluded our successful event.

Till we see you again next time!
